Zwijndrecht
Volgerlanden/Walburg Project

The five pollarded willows mark the boundary between Hendrik Ido Ambacht and Zwijndrecht. They were planned by Lucien den Arend in 1971. After the water surface is extended up to the foot of the meandering dike, behind them, of the Walburg project. They will remain standing on an elongated mound in the water. Thus they will form a second island.

The municipalities of Zwijndrecht and Hendrik Ido Ambacht, the Netherlands commissioned Lucien den Arend to make a site specific sculptures for Zwijndrecht - Volgerlanden environmental sculpture - and for the new districts of Walburg and Volgerlanden.
